burraneer sails
Back to the PortfolioThe brief for this project was to design an effective and interesting screen to give privacy to the property from an imposing new neighbouring residence. The lower gardens needed to be of a natural layered composition, and able to withstand the harsh sea laden southerly winds that frequent the property. While an architectural statement was required for the pool surrounds and the screening requirements.
Three angular shade sail screens were the solution to the privacy. These doubled also as dedicated backdrop feature panels to showcase the selected accent plantings.
A stone clad cabana was also put into place to help with privacy and purpose, in assigning an area to gather when the pool was in use. The stone cladding and angular crazy pave sandstone flagging pick up one another’s warm colour tones. Sustainable Australian Cypress hardwood was selected for the timberwork for its character and rustic appeal.
Special attention was given to the garden lighting. Bright white LED lighting showcases the gardens for a distinct ‘oomph’. Barrel lights positioned on Dracaenas in front the screens cast dramatic angular shadow displays at night, while the featured stonework is highlighted with directional lighting that accentuates its texture. A large gum foreground to the waterfront comes to life with a powerful in ground spotlight that creates a magical ambience.
