QUIET HEIGHTS

With views to Sydney Harbour, this Dover Heights landscaping project was designed to transform a steep, multi-level site into a series of connected outdoor entertainment areas—each carefully positioned to bring greater purpose and retreat to the property.

The brief was centred around creating a dynamic and intriguing luxury landscaping experience that felt both refined and relaxed, where the site dominant terracing and planting harmonise the property aesthetic. With an adventurous cactus and succulent inspired planting base at the request and passion of the client. We planned to override the strong structural presence that was brought about the landscape terracing with strong planting elements that form the foundation of the design, including layered greenery that introduces movement, texture, and depth throughout the many various garden spaces.

At the heart of the project is the pool level, where clean lines and natural stone finishes are complemented by cascading planting that spills over retaining walls, creating a lush, inviting garden feel. The integration of planting across vertical surfaces was key to reducing the visual impact of level changes while enhancing the overall softness and allure of the architecture of landscape.

A carefully curated planting palette defines the character of this bespoke garden design in Sydney, blending sculptural species with subtropical layering. Key landscape architecture selections —including agaves, aloes, and feature cacti—provide strong visual structure, while palms and dense planting introduce a sense of calm and enclosure. This balance allows the landscape design to feel both contemporary and timeless, while remaining highly suited to such a luxury Sydney property.

As the garden unfolds, a series of defined zones emerge—each connected through considered pathways and transitions. A private backyard sauna is nestled within dense planting, creating a secluded retreat, while upper levels open to a rooftop entertaining space designed to take full advantage of Sydney harbour and the city skyline beyond.

Frameless glass balustrades and restrained material selections ensure the outlook remains uninterrupted, allowing the surrounding landscape and distant views to become a central part of the experience.

Constructed with a high level of detail and coordination, this Dover Heights landscape design and construction project reflects a seamless collaboration between design, construction, and horticulture.
